The Holm Show's not just for August...

Until I was invited to become Industrial Secretary of the Holm Show - I had absolutely no idea what an Industrial Secretary even did. After three years in the post I'm STILL not positive I've got the job sussed to be honest, but it's certainly been an educational experience! Fortunately for me - the Holm Show is blessed with some really great and hard working people who make sure the whole thing happens every year come what may.

I used to assume not much happened between Shows. I suppose I thought people would just get together about a month before the Big Day and sort everything out. WRONG! I have actually been astonished to discover just how much behind-the-scenes work goes into the whole thing. Meetings are held at regular intervals throughout the year to discuss things like new classes, different entertainments, price changes, field lay-out - you name it really. It's all very democratic and everyone on the committee gets to have a say, so sometimes the meetings can be quite lively affairs.

Last year we added a whole new element - when the fantastic Borders-based band Scocha played in the tent on the Thursday evening before the show. It was a joint operation really between the Holm Show and the Clan Elliot Gathering and it was a terrific success. So - we've decided to do it again this year, but with the band playing on the Saturday night instead. Unfortunately Scocha are already booked, so we're hunting around to find another band as good as they are to rock our Copshaw socks off. Watch this space for more details!
